The iconic umbrellas on rue du Cul-de-Sac in the Quartier Petit Champlain are finally back! This magnificent aerial decor so admired by passers-by is now accessible to all lovers of this heritage area until October. With the financial support of the City of Québec and Destination Québec Cité, the Quartier Petit Champlain can once again host safer facilities than ever before. This time, red, blue, green and beige, the colours of the Destination Québec Cité logo, are the star colours that adorn the sky to honour this major financial partner.

A COLOURFUL COMEBACK
After a one-year break, the Coopérative du Quartier Petit Champlain can finally announce the return of the magnificent umbrellas installed between the historic buildings bordering Cul-de-Sac Street. Last year, a restriction from the fire department prevented the installation of umbrellas. The Coopérative du Quartier Petit Champlain was challenged to find a solution that would allow firefighters to unhook umbrellas quickly in the event of a fire, in a single manoeuvre, from the ground. The Coopérative du Quartier Petit Champlain team did not give up. It is therefore after several months of research and prototypes that it can finally allow the reinstallation of this artistic show highlighting 95 floating umbrellas for a sky of the most colorful.

A PROFITABLE COLLABORATION
It was thanks to the collaboration of MFX Production, accompanied by senior rigger Jean-Sébastien Fortin, under the supervision of the director of communications and marketing of the Coopérative du Quartier Petit Champlain, that the solution was created. In order to counter safety issues, cable cutters attached to a network of electrical wires are intended to automatically cut the facility’s ropes when the detonator is activated. This system is effective in less than a minute and allows fire crews to bring the facility down, deploy the large scale and reach tall buildings. This revolutionary tailor-made solution meets the requirements of the City’s authorities and ensures a safe response by firefighters. The Coopérative du Quartier Petit Champlain is proud to have collaborated with such a qualified and professional team, allowing this street considered one of the most beautiful streets in Canada to shine with all its colours again!

Brin de Folie, a well-established boutique in the Quartier Petit Champlain, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this month! Brin de Folie has been a favourite spot for finding many of the most original collectibles for all these years, thanks to the quality of its products and the wide range of choices available both at the physical store and on its website. The company also offers the largest selection of Russian dolls in the country! Always driven by the same passion as in her early days, the owner Monique Zimmermann, helped by her daughter Mai Li and her faithful and indispensable employees Diane and Marco, hopes to take care of Brin de Folie for many years to come!

BRILLIANT, DIFFERENT, FLAMBOYANT!
Brin de Folie is without a doubt the paradise of collectors. Going to the store not only allows you to make unusual discoveries, but also to have a completely unique experience! Its decor like no other in Quebec offers a complete immersion in a magical universe where are deployed Matriochkas (Russian dolls), musical snowballs, music boxes of all shapes, Loungefly bags, more than 400 different Funko Pop figurines, Disney Tradition figurines by Jim Shore, Spanish Pepote dolls, Tokidoki bags and Unicorno figurines with Italian design, not forgetting various objects of the Little Prince, Smurf figurines, a large selection of Tintin items, Ravensburger puzzles and many other original gift ideas!

All the furniture has been custom-made, including the imposing Ferris wheel for greeting cards, the giant Russian doll display and several shelves of unusual shapes.

The Brin de Folie boutique, with its originality and colours, simply makes you want to go back to childhood. Young and old are charmed every time. It is a business that brings a great diversity to the neighbourhood’s offering,” said Carolanne Fournel, Director of Communications and Marketing at the Coopérative du Quartier Petit Champlain.

PRECURSOR TO E-COMMERCE
While e-commerce was not common practice in the early 2000s, Brin de Folie had already made a name for herself by becoming a finalist in e-commerce at the Year 2000 Trust! Self-taught by nature, Monique Zimmermann has also created herself with the help of some reference books in HTML, her first site! Brin de Folie always gives it a lot of importance, continuously improving its website. To date, more than 1,500 items are available on the online store!
